Take a Journey "Into the Wild"

It's 100 degrees outside right now and Labor Day is fast approaching. But come November, when the leaves are changing colors and your tan has long faded, that summer vacation will feel like it was a very long time ago. So, why not, just for one night, get away from it all? You'll have that chance at the PRSA annual Social. Take a journey "Into the Wild" and escape from civilization, even if it's for just a few hours. Mark Wednesday, November 7 on your calendar today!

This year's Social has a new feature: a Silent Auction. The committee is looking for great items, and if you work at a company that offers services or a product, YOU can help. We are looking for items large and small. Tickets to your venue? We'd love to have them. Have a service you can offer? Great! We are looking for products, gift certificates, services--you name it! Of course, there is something in it for you, too. Each donor will have its name listed on the PRSA Web site prior to the event, as well as listed in the printed program and on signage the evening of the event.

To donate an item/service, please contact Becky Lawson at becky@behindthescenespr.net.  If you'd really like to get involved, we are also looking for a Bar Sponsor for $300. The Bar Sponsor will have its name printed on drink coupons, and also printed in the program and signage, and listed on the PRSA Web site in advance. Contact Amy Cobb at arcobb@cox.net

if you are interested in being the Bar Sponsor.

Would you like to win a free ticket to the event? You'll have your chance at the PRSA luncheon on September 5th. A winner will be picked, "Survivor"-style. Come wearing your WILDEST outfit (could be just a crazy hat (a safari hat, perhaps?) or an "out there" shirt, whatever). If you'd like to compete, come up to the front at the announced time, and the rest of the luncheon attendees will vote for the lone "Survivor," who will win a free ticket!! This is one time you'll want to be voted "onto-not off-the island."

Here's the 411 on the event:

Date: Wednesday, November 7

Time: 6 - 8 p.m.

Location: Distinctive Event Rentals in "exotic" Chesapeake

Price: TBA (watch for more details later!)

So don't monkey around, mark your calendars NOW!

Chapter has new sponsorship program

Businesses now have the opportunity to heighten their visibility before the professional membership of Hampton Roads PRSA through a recently announced sponsorship program.

There are a variety of categories for potential sponsors, each designed to meet specific needs:

$50 Sponsorship

For a given month, the sponsor's logo and a brief message of their choice appears on the electronic version of our Chapter newsletter.  The newsletter is e-mailed to nearly 200 members and is also posted on our Web site.  (See sample ad on left.)

$100 Sponsorship

The sponsor's logo appears on the PRSA Hampton Roads web site for one quarter, with a live link back to their own Web site.

$500 Sponsorship

The sponsor is personally recognized at a regularly scheduled meeting which includes the following:

 - Company logo on all meeting notices and publicity associated with the event. Our meeting notices are distributed to more than 200 communications professionals.

 - A display table to distribute promotional material at the meeting.

 - The opportunity for the sponsor to personally introduce themselves and their business before our membership.

The sponsor's support of our meetings are publicized for one year via:

- E-mail messages to members

- Press releases to business publications and calendar editors

A "Friends of PRSA Hampton Roads Chapter" sign posted at each chapter meeting and event with sponsor's logo.

The sponsor's logo appears on the PRSA Hampton Roads web site for one year, with a live link back to their own website.

If you are aware of a potential sponsor who is seeking such opportunities, have them contact Edward M. Novi, APR, at enovi@netzero.com

New magazine to promote Hampton Roads Cultural Arts

Hampton Roads Bravo!, a new regional cultural arts publication, has been launched by The Cultural Alliance of Hampton Roads and Darden Publishing. The premiere issue will be published in January 2008.

The magazine, scheduled to publish every January and July, in addition to a smaller spring festival supplement, is the result of a non-profit/profit venture to promote the arts in Hampton Roads across all venues, political boundaries and artistic disciplines. It will foster public and private arts funding, arts education, and community and individual participation, as well as encouraging membership in the Cultural Alliance, which has served as the arts and culture community's advocacy organization for 25 years.

Paul Darden, president of Darden Publishing, which has published the lifestyle guide Living in Hampton Roads and its predecessor Living on the Virginia Peninsula since 1994, is publisher. PRSA Hampton Roads member Gail Kent, who has more than 30 years of experience as a writer, editor and business communicator, is executive editor.

The glossy, four-color magazine will be distributed free of charge at arts venues, businesses, select retail and municipal locations, airports, Chambers of Commerce and hotels, and to local and state dignitaries and legislators.

Each issue will include features and interviews on Hampton Roads arts and artists; stories that address cultural arts topics such as arts and the law, sustainability, regionalization and funding; a venue map and arts organization list; dedicated sections on each of the major arts; and short news items.

To submit news items and story ideas, or to obtain more information on advertising, contact Paul Darden at darden.publishing@cox.net or (757)596-3638, or send releases to P.O. Box 11023, Newport News, Va., 23601 or fax to (757)596-5791.

Hampton Roads Media Directory PayPal option is here!

Thanks to the hard work of chapter members Sid Bridge, APR and Rob Chapman, APR, members and non-members can now purchase the Hampton Roads Media Directory with PayPal.  This new and improved feature allows for nearly instantaneous access to the area's most complete media list.  For more information visit  http://www.prsahr.org/mediaDirectory.shtml.
