May Meeting Preview

Video News Clip Services: News you can use

Looking for a way to show the boss that your PR efforts are resulting in media coverage? Need to document news stories from your latest campaign? Interested in knowing what share of media voice is going to your competition? If so, you need to attend our next chapter meeting on Wednesday, May 2, to learn more about video news clip services.

This more “tactical” lunch program, featuring David Moskowitz owner of Video News Inc., will be full of “news-you-can-use” back at the office. Review the basics (i.e. capturing broadcast news coverage, usage rights, keyword searches, simple reports, etc.), and then go to school with advance concepts like brand monitoring, advertising valuation, and gathering competitive intelligence.

Hear the latest on the new technologies, capabilities, options, benefits and costs of incorporating video news monitoring into your public relations toolkit (and budget!).

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about this often overlooked and underutilized service.

Focus on Leadership - Meredith Mobley

Full name: Meredith Elaine Mobley

Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA

Family/Pets: My parents, Harold and Ester, still live in Virginia Beach, as well as my 32-year-old brother, Mario and 19-year-old sister, Mallorie.

What brought you to Hampton Roads? Mom and Dad! I have been here since I was four years old and couldn’t think of a better place to be.

How long have you been in the PR field? I have been in this wonderful field since 2005, when I graduated from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University. That summer, I interned for Scripps Networks in Knoxville, TN in the Marketing and Public Relations Department.

Current position: I am currently the For Rent Media Solutions Marketing Communications Coordinator. I have the pleasure of writing all press releases for a leading business within the multi-family housing industry and am responsible for the majority of our coverage in industry publications. I also help coordinate internal communications to keep our employees in the field offices connected to our industry trends.

What do you like to do on a day off? I’ve always enjoyed a little S&S…sleeping and shopping!

What has been your most memorable PR challenge? Earlier this year, I was responsible for putting together a manager’s directory for a major company conference, where over 150 For Rent Media Solutions managers from across the country would be in attendance. For this directory, I needed to gather headshots and put together a brief bio for each manager. I also had to oversee the production of the book and come up with creative ideas for artwork that matched the theme of the meeting. After overcoming a few roadblocks and contributing many late nights with my co-workers, the book was finished. As a result, I was recognized as the January 2007 Employee of the Month.

Who do you most admire? I admire those who are veterans in this field. I hope that one day I will be able to provide PR “rookies” with the wealth of information that these veterans have provided for me.

What is the most valuable feature of being a PRSA HR member? I really enjoy the interaction with other PR professionals. How could you not love a PR person? We are a fun group and always know the right thing to say!

Current PRSA HR leadership role(s): I am currently the Pubic Service Chair for our chapter. We are working with EQUI-KIDS to help them promote their 13th Annual Golf Classic, which is being held on May 3rd at Hell’s Point Golf Club. Make sure you look for them on April 30th during WVEC’s 12 p.m. news segment, “Community Chat.”
