Save the Date

Social Media Smarts Find Out How Your Peers are Using New Media Channels Take advantage of the talent and expertise among the members of the Hampton Roads PRSA chapter at our June breakfast networking event. We'll gather for roundtable discussions to share best practices and answer some of your questions about using new media channels. Topics include: Learning how local organizations use social media Engaging employees through social media and video Connecting with traditional media through social media channels Creating a corporate social media policy Meeting the demand for relevant online video content Measuring ROI of social media As an added bonus, John Runberg, BCF director of digital strategy, will be circulating among the tables to offer his perspective. Each table will have a facilitator to keep the discussion moving. Be prepared to share the tactics you're using and talk about how they're working for your organization. If you have a social media policy that you're willing to share, bring that too. We're offering this breakfast event in place of our regular monthly luncheon because a number of our members and guests have suggested that the chapter hold occasional breakfast meeting. If attendance warrants it, we'll evaluate holding other breakfast events. Please mark your calendars and register today! A message from the President By Mindy Hughes, APR Dear PRSA Colleagues: Hard to believe it's almost June and summer is just around the corner. But before you take off, be sure to join us for our June program. At the request of a number of people, we're trying breakfast instead of lunch, and at a reduced cost to you. We're eager to see how members and guests respond to the change, so please feel free to share your thoughts. Although the Hampton Roads PRSA chapter will not be meeting in July or August, your Board of Directors will still be working on your behalf, planning fall programs and also looking ahead to 2011. We'll be considering program topics and speakers, meeting location, costs and other matters - but what we really want to know is what matters to YOU. This chapter exists to serve you and help meet your needs for professional development and networking. That's why we'll soon be undertaking our 2010 member survey. Although we've occasionally solicited your feedback on some specific items, we haven't done a comprehensive survey for about two years - and a lot has changed in that time. Anecdotally, we hear about staff and budget cuts at our members' employers and we know that a number of employers no longer pay employees' dues for professional organizations - like PRSA. We want to gauge the impact this is having on our membership. We also want to find out what changes in your workplace or in your job responsibilities mean for your professional development needs. Are we offering meaningful programs that will help you create value for your organization? And what about the services that the chapter offers, such as the Job Bank and Media Directory? Are these benefits that you want to continue receiving? Are there other programs or services that would be more helpful? We'll let you know when the survey is coming and I urge you to take time to complete it. We need your feedback to help us serve you with excellence. Best regards, Mindy
