Highlights from the 2009 PRSA Assembly
Becky Lawson and Kevin Gaydosh represented the PRSA HR Chapter at this year's National Assembly held October in California. Here are a few highlights from their trip.
Key Bylaw Revisions
Revision #104 APR Eligibility Requirement: APPROVED
This was a bylaws revision that recommended that directors must be APR to serve as a leader in the organization.
Revision #109 Membership Criteria: APPROVED This was a bylaws revision that recommended that we maintain membership criteria to individuals who primary function is public relations, not to expand membership to include other communications professionals. Revision #112 Prohibit Proxy Voting in Assembly: NOT APPROVED This was a bylaws revision that recommended that we not allow proxy voting at the Assembly. Also delegates can vote their conscience.
Highlights from the State of the Society Report
- There is an APR-M pilot being conducted by the Society that works with the military to create a special class of APR specifically for the military that would be tied to promotions.
- The Society is working with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to impart the value of APR.
- The Society is working to consolidate emails to members. Future emails will be dynamic, personalized and branded.
- The Society is working to identify best practices from high performing chapters and partner them with low performing chapters to serve as mentors.
- This year the Job Center has been completely overhauled. It now includes resume critiquing, job hunting tips, etc. It
is a great tool for those members who are seeking employment.
- The Society launched its new website this month. Chapter website templates will be available in the 1Q 2010.
- The 2010 focus for the Society will be: Advocacy, Business Case for APR, Communities, Diversity, and Education.
2010 International Conference
The 2010 International Conference will be held on October 16th-19th in Washington DC at the Washington Hilton in the Dupont/Adams Morgan Neighborhood. The National Capital Chapter will be the host for the 2010 Conference. They will be soliciting representative from surrounding chapters, including the HR Chapter, to participate in the planning and sponsorship.
